Volcano Magma Electronic Cigarette Tips
Note: Volcano no longer uses the three-part design for the Magma electronic cigarette. Read about the Magma (T) to learn about this e-cigarette’s new, more efficient design. The information in this article still applies to any electronic cigarette that uses disposable flavor cartridges.
As you may know if you have spent some time reading the posts on eDripping.com, my current preference with electronic cigarettes is to drip the liquid directly on the atomizer. However, I recently ordered several different flavor cartridges for my Magma electronic cigarette so I could record my tasting notes and learn some helpful information for this website. I found that I still prefer dripping, but using flavor cartridges can be a viable alternative for places where dripping is impractical, such as during driving. While trying these flavor cartridges, I found several things that you can do to improve the experience of using the Magma. If you use the Magma electronic cigarette with disposable flavor cartridges and are having problems, I hope that you will find these tips helpful.
How to Use the Volcano Magma Electronic Cigarette
With the standard Volcano electronic cigarette, the flavor cartridge goes over the atomizer, and the foil seal for the flavor capsule is inside the cartridge and difficult to reach. For this reason, it is easiest to use the atomizer itself (though not best for the life of the atomizer, but they are inexpensive) to poke a hole in the foil. With the Magma, the atomizer is recessed, the the foil cover is on the outside of the cartridge. Therefore, it is best to remove the foil with a paper clip or safety pin before placing the cartridge inside the atomizer assembly. Insert the cartridge fully, and draw on the electronic cigarette or push the button to activate the battery. From there, simply use the electronic cigarette until the flavor begins to dissipate, then remove the cartridge and throw it away. Remember that one Magma flavor cartridge contains the same amount of nicotine as several cigarettes, so use it carefully. However, bear in mind that some of the liquid will remain in the bottom of the electronic cigarette cartridge unless you take steps to extend it.
How to Get More Vapor from a Magma Electronic Cigarette
One of the problems with using disposable cartridges rather than dripping is the fact that vapor production with cartridges can be inconsistent. Sometimes, it’s great. Other times, not so much. One of the things that you can do is switch to a manual battery. Switch the battery on for a moment to start the vapor production before drawing on the electronic cigarette. When the flavor begins to decrease, set the electronic cigarette down for several minutes to give the remaining liquid a chance to wick down to the atomizer. When you reach the last bit of flavor, hold the electronic cigarette and give it a few firm flicks as you would with an old-fashioned mercury thermometer to send the last drops of liquid down to the atomizer.
Extend the Life of a Magma Electronic Cigarette Cartridge
One thing I noticed when trying flavor cartridges with my Magma electronic cigarette rather than dripping is the fact that there is always a good amount of liquid in the bottom of the cartridge that I can’t get out. If you dislike the waste of throwing the cartridge away when there is still usable liquid inside, buy a bottle of electronic cigarette liquid in the same flavor. Put a few drops inside the nearly empty cartridge, give the liquid a few minutes to settle, and resume using it. Alternatively, you can remove the filler material from the cartridge and turn it around so that the wet side faces the atomizer.
Avoid Damaging the Magma Electronic Cigarette Atomizer
When the flavor is gone from your Magma electronic cigarette cartridge and you are unable to get any more vapor out of it, do not continue using it. The filler material makes direct contact with the atomizer, and you can actually begin to melt it. When this happens, some of the material may remain stuck to the atomizer when you remove the cartridge, leading to a difficult cleaning job and potentially ruining the atomizer.
