Ginger is a reasonably popular e-liquid flavor, but to date the only e-liquids I’ve tried in which ginger really works use it as a background note. Halo’s Smooth 8 is a perfect example of this; its blend of tobacco, bitter citrus and ginger flavors works incredibly well. ELiquid Planet’s Ginger flavor — supplied by Dekang — is another story. It was one of the first e-liquids that I reviewed for this website, and I found it more interesting than good. It was far too powerful to be anything more than a curiosity. It seems that a ginger e-liquid needs more than one flavor note to really work.
That’s where deejStuff’s Sweet Gingerbread e-liquid comes in. Combining the flavor of ginger with the warm, sweet notes of ginger snap cookies, Sweet Gingerbread is a dessert e-liquid that really works. The ginger flavor creates a little bit of nice heat on the tongue, but it isn’t so strong that you’ll be likely to find yourself wanting something different after only a few puffs.
deejStuff Sweet Gingerbread really shines with an atomizer or cartomizer that produces a nice warm vapor. I’m testing Sweet Gingerbread on an Innokin iTaste VV with a Tidy Clearomizer set to five volts, which I find generates warm vapor with plenty of throat hit. The heat brings the ginger flavor to the foreground while the throat hit — which is a bit higher than average for an 18 mg e-liquid — accentuates the bite that the ginger creates in the mouth.
Sweet Gingerbread isn’t as spectacular a dessert e-liquid as Strawberry Cheesecake, an e-liquid I reviewed earlier this year and gave top marks to. I also can’t see many people deciding that a flavor like gingerbread belongs in their daily e-liquid rotations. If you’re in the mood for something different with a nice combination of sweet and spicy flavor notes, though, this is definitely an e-liquid worth trying.
